The Raisin Experiment

It’s important to take care of ourselves. You can’t give what you don’t have. Your health is important. Remember that when your time is DONE with the military, YOU have to live with what remains of YOU.

As you give of yourself–REPLENISH. Take the time to get a mani, pedi, or what ever makes you feel great. If money is an issue–its not an issue when it comes to replenishing yourself.  There have been times I have grabbed a large bowl and heated water to give myself a facial with items in the kitchen cabinet.

Today, I want to share a simple meditative practice:

I read an article by Locke Hughes. He expressed the benefits of eating slowly. In his article, he referenced a study at UC Berkeley. Here is the experiment:

  1. Take a raisin and hold it, focusing your full attention on all of the ridges and hollows.
  2. Touch it. Turn the raisin over, feeling the texture. Close your eyes to enhance the feeling.
  3. Smell it. Hold the raisin under your nose and breathe in. Notice its smell, as well as how your mouth or stomach might react to the scent.
  4.  Taste it. Gently place the raisin in your mouth. Don’t chew it yet. Give your tongue a moment to explore the texture. When you are ready, take just a bite or two and notice what happens.

Take the time to relax and take care of yourself so that you are able to be great for others!

I tried this as a group. Maybe bring your friends a box of raisins.
